Savannah Style

1 cup saltines, rolled into crumbs

1 cup butter, divided and melted

4 cups sweet or Vidalia onions, thinly sliced

4 eggs, lightly beaten

1-1/2 cups milk

3/4 cup Cheddar cheese, grated

Mix 1/2 cup butter with cracker crumbs and pat into 9-inch pie plate. Sauté onions in 1/2 cup butter. Put onions into pie shell. Slowly add milk to beaten eggs. Pour over onions. Sprinkle top with grated cheese.

Bake at 350° about 30 minutes or until cheese is brown.

Yield: 6 servings
