The Junior League of Philadelphia’s Bicentennial Cookbook

3/4 cup butter, softened

1 cup dark brown sugar

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 egg

1/4 cup water

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 cup sifted flour

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

3 cups quick oats

1 cup raisins

1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Cream butter and sugars; stir in egg, water, and vanilla. Sift together flour, salt, and soda; add to sugar mixture. Blend in oats, raisins, and nuts (if desired).

Drop by teaspoon onto greased cookie tin and bake at 350° for 12 to 15 minutes. Cool, remove, and store in a covered container.

Yield: 5 Dozen

Notes:

  1. Used a mix of chocolate, dried cranberries, and chopped walnuts as add-ins

  2. Found these baked up in closer to 9 minutes

  3. Added a little cinnamon for taste
