Savannah Style

2 cups flour

1/4 cup sugar

1/2 cup butter (no substitute)

Put flour and sugar in a mound on a pastry board. Gradually knead the sugared flour into butter with hands until a firm dough is formed.

Roll into a round shape about 1 inch thick; put into a shortbread mold or bake in a 9-inch pie pan. Decorate edges by marking with a fork.

Bake at 350° for about 1 hour or until pale fawn in color. Dredge with sugar when done. Cut into small wedges while still warm.

Yield: 16 Wedges

Notes:

  1. Added some lemon zest and sweet basil flowers for flavor

  2. Took this out of the oven at 35 minutes, and found it over baked in the pan while cooling

  3. The dough cracked and crumbed almost immediately out of the oven
